We, at the Hollywood Hills United Methodist Church, are responding to Jesus call in many ways.  Jubilee Center, a Soup Kitchen Corporation in the Hollywood area, is one of the volunteer opportunities God has given us to respond to His call in our community.

We work as volunteers in Jubilee Center every third Wednesday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to noon.   There, we help with a variety of tasks such as:

  • preparing and serving the food
  • setting tables, preparing hygiene kits
  • classifying clothing, toys, and shoes

“The Jubilee Center” takes its name from the Biblical Year of Jubilee in Leviticus – the great year of social justice. It began with the blowing of the ram’s horn trumpet (the jubal) and the cry, “proclaim liberty throughout the land and to all its people!” Since 1984, Jubilee offers services to the poor and homeless. The services are offered Monday through Friday to approximately 150 people daily.

“For  I  was  hungry  and  you  gave  me  something  to  eat,  I was thirsty  and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, needed  clothes  and  you  clothed me,  I  was  sick  and  you looked  after me,  I was in prison and you came to visit me.”                        Mathew 25:35

We strive to be the face of Jesus for these people in need.
