Two years ago our church adopted the vision statement which says we are “Making disciples for the transformation of the world.” We went through this process with the New Realities group and our Administrative Council supported this
vision 100%.

That sounds good but what does it really mean? Before Jesus was taken up to heaven he gave us these marching orders found in Matthew 28:19:
“Go into all the world and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of
the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” Certainly, making disciples is not just
something we do on our own, but partnering with Jesus, it can be done.
Paul said it best: “I planted, Apollos watered and God does the
growing.” (1 Cor. 3:6)

It is our responsibility to teach others the way of Christ. Jesus reduced the laws of the Pharisee’s from 613 down to 2: “Love the Lord you God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength and you neighbor as yourself. All of the laws hang on these two.”

One way to teach this is through example. Our mission statement, which is our vision enacted is “Be the change.” The idea is that we ought to be the change in the world that we want to see. This was evidenced last
week by one of our members.

I received a phone call from a worshipper in our congregation who needed immediate assistance and I was not able help. But one of our faithful people was and within 45 minutes was on the scene and helping in a way that made a real difference in someone else’s life!

This is who we are called to be. Will you join us in making disciples for the transformation of the world? After all, Jesus calls us to “be the change!”

In Christ,
